Thomas Jefferson, upon the declaration of independence, states that all men are created equal.
America is the country of opportunity, it’s the place where we have a melting pot, it’s a place where everyone are ”equal”.

But are we really equal?

When the proposition 8 in California was in vote. Homosexuality was supported by that everyone was created equal, so why couldn’t they get married?

But then why aren’t there people fighting against the fact that universities only accept those who are at the top, why aren’t people going against the fact that a majority of people are living in below the minimum salary?

If everyone really cared about equality, then everyone should be fighting for ALL men being equal, instead of fighting for their standards to be compared to a higher standard.

In other words, in the society we live in today, we cannot have the equality for all men simply because the competitive nature of human kind.

Some may make the argument that we are created, it’s just the way we grow up mold us into different people. Let’s think back, is everyone even born equally?
Some babies were born in a hospital, some babies were born on the streets; some babies were born to loving families, some babies were born and left in dumpsters; some babies were to be with full humane ability and yet some babies were born to be mutated because of their mothers smoked and drank.

There are so many counter arguments about the comparison about the babies. However, when it really comes down to it, the environment we live in now are created by the generation before us, and the environment they lived in were created by the generation before them and so on. And in every generation, the inequality of people is the reason why we have the lower class, why we have mothers who couldn’t afford to care for their babies and ultimately why no matter what form of government we have, there’ll always be corruption within.

The point I’m trying to make here is, when people argue that they want something (i.e everyone can marry everything because we are created equal) they are simply being ignorant of the fact that all the other areas of a human being’s life are not equal to everyone else’s.

Furthermore, in the society we live in today, equality does not exist.

Simply put: all men are not created equal under the government and the people.

However, under God, all men and women are created equal.

Childhood. Do you still remember what your childhood was like? Playing with your friends at preschool; couldn’t go anywhere without the guidance of a parent; and being careless about the world.

Do you remember what you wanted to be when you grow up?
Are you still that person you’ve always desired to be?

Once in every man’s life, he was innocent; he was truthful; he was care free and he was pure. Hitler didn’t want to dictate the world when he was a baby. Even Satan was a fallen angel from the heaven.
Does that ring a bell?

So often in our lives, as we grow up, we forget what we desired to be when we were children. The purest thought of becoming a doctor to help and heal people can turn into the greed for more education & money. The honest thought of becoming the president of some sort to help people around you can turn into the greed of dictatorship… and the list goes on.

What happened during our teenage years that molded us to be who we are today instead of who we wanted to be from the bottom of our hearts?

Society would be the answer.

We used to live in a world where we can be care free of what others thought because of the protection of our parent/guardian.
In the same way; as we grow up, we grow out of the parents’ protection – as we become more independent, we strive to survive on our own by making a stand in the society.
And how do we do that?
Most of us conform to the pattern of this world to fit in.
The alternation of conformity plays a huge role in almost every single lives. While there are a minority of people who still posses the mind of child innocence; the majority of young adults today are greatly molded (influenced & shaped) by the society we live in.

Are you who you wanted to be when you were a kid?
If not, what happened to that little guy inside of you? Did the world just blew it away with the desire to fit in; desire for fame and money; and desire to be the best no matter what?

So… Vacation Bible School just ended yesterday. After a short week of playing and leading the kids; I’ve made so many connections with them.

VBS is basically for kids ranging from all ages till 11ish. Our church held one every year in the summer – like most of the churches do here. It’s so intersting how these kids are so small and seemed to not be caring about anything at all and yet the church is trying to impact their lives. Personally I had huge doubts that our church would actually make impacts on these children in one week – let alone say they would learn much about Jesus. But as the week gone by; I realized that even though these kids are always goofing around and not paying attention to the counselors. When it comes to Bible Verse Memory time; they try so hard to remember thoses verses. Uncompelled by us leaders; the kids in my group even voluntarily tried to recite the verses to me when we were doing crafts or they were coloring their papers.

The week went great; I loved the kids and loved hanging out with them. I wish the week hadn’t ended.

The kids might not have learned much about the Gospel. But the important thing -which I just realized – is that we planted the seeds in them.

Often in our Christian lives; we try to convince someone to join a church – moreover; we try forcefully to convert them in to Christians. But that’s not how God intended for us to reach out to people. When Jesus came; He didn’t go, “Believe in me or else I will kill you”. You know; he planted seeds; he preached to as many people as possible. He didn’t force anyone to follow him. He simply told the disciples, “come and follow me and I will make you Fishers of Men; not of fish”. You know; they didn’t have to follow him; they were moved by his words.

And that’s how I believe our lives should be; reach out to our community; spread the Word; and plant the seeds; and let go, let God. He words in mysterious ways; we don’t. We are messengers; we carry the Word; He does the work.

But yeah; this week has been great. The kids were so funny when they tried to hang onto my arms; I’d lift them up as if they were dumbbells. hahaha. This might be the last summer I’ll do VBS for awhile… Senior year is next year; and then I’m off to college (if I don’t end up in Ohlone). hahaha

:D So bored right now.

Talk to me on aim!

I remember back in China; we read this article for our class, the title was ”The Decision of Life”. It talked about how a guy was traveling in the desert; and he had no water for many many days. He was pretty much crawling on the ground.
Oddly enough; one day just before he was about to die of dehydration; he came across this water pump. Next to the water pump there was a water bottle -filled with water, and on that water bottle; he found a note : ”Dear friend, to make this water pump to pump water out; you have to pour this bottle of water into the water pump (from the top) – otherwise, it won’t work. And make sure to fill up the water bottle after you’re done”.
Basically, the man had to decide whether to pour the water into the pump or no. If he pours the water in; and the water pump doesn’t work, then he’s basically screwed. If he doesn’t pour the water into the pump; he’s not going to survive much longer. He was torn between these choices. It was a life and death decision basically.
At last, he decided to pour the water into the pump. After a while, the water just came rushing out of the pump abundantly. The man drank the water until he was not thirsty anymore. And then he filled up all of his water bottles plus the one that was next to the water pump. And he added to the note; ”this water saved my life! Whomever you may be to come here next. Be sure to give this bottle up so that you may have more.”

So yeah, that’s basically how the story went.
Often times; in our lives, we tend to hold on to things in hoping that they’d last forever. For example; we hold on to money, especially Asian people. We tend to be cheaper than the other ethnicity. We spend much less; compare prices; and spend only what is necessary to hope that we can one day become rich because we save.
But the truth is; you have to let it go so that you’ll have more.
2 points will prove this statement:
The economy in the United States (and other countries). When consumers don’t spend as much to buy stuff, the economy goes down right away and we fall into an economical crisis. (like the one we’re in now).
And in the Bible; there’s a verse that basically means to let go, so you’ll have much more.

A preacher once said that if you hold on to the money in your hand; even though it won’t leave but nothing will come in either.
Likewise in the story above; if the man didn’t let go of the bottle of water; he wouldn’t be able to get that much, much more water that would come out of the water pump.

Therefore, let go of what you have, the best that you have; so that you can gain much much more of what’s the best.

Well, it has been almost 2 months since I’m back from Mexico.
The lessons I’ve learned there faded away long ago with the hectic life of an average Jr in high school.
But just as I forget about everything
things started to come back, and hit home really hard today

I remember staying at Mexico and learned about how not to take things for granted when I come back to the states
I remember making a promise to myself saying, ”I’m going to appreciate everything single thing I get in the states: running tap water; hot showers; clean bathrooms; water pressure; etc..”
but after a week of school, I’ve forgot almost everything I promised myself; in addition, I didn’t really learn how to appreciate the material things that much anyways.

But it was today, I’ve finally realized something much more than just appreciating those material things.
I started thinking and looking around, every single thing I have, I should appreciate:
my parents; they love me for who I am; they are always here no matter what
my friends & girlfriend; they love me too; they are always here for me too
my home, without this home, I would be homeless, and that would suck
and many many more things which I’m not going to list here.

So what? you might ask, so what that you learned how to appreciate? I don’t give a damn about it.
Well, then I started realizing the problems we encounter with our lives
the fights we have with our parents, our loved ones, our friends
if only, we can appreciate the bigger picture, and not take things for granted (don’t take their love/care for you for granted), then we wouldn’t care about the problems we have right there at the moment
because compared to the bigger picture here,
those problems are like a drip of water in the big ocean.

I’m hoping to do better in life with this life lesson I’ve finally came to realize
I hope the same to you
=)

Haven’t updated my blog in awhile
I’ve been way too lazy after the AP tests…
I’m procrastinating on all my projects.. especially my math book report…
oh boy, I have to read this math book… which is like PART DICTIONARY -_-
this is going to be so much fun…

but it’s almost the end of May, school’s going to end very soon
and summer is coming! :D

So earlier this week, I read something about happiness, and a few ways to help you cheer up:
1. Count what you have, not what you don’t have. Remember to do that everyday for the rest of your life. If you start counting what you don’t have, you’ll go crazy.

2. Find something in your life right now that’s going well. It can’t all be bad.

3. Try to remember the worst thing that ever happened to you. You did live through that, didn’t you?

4. Think of one person, just one, who is glad you’re alive. Everybody has somebody.

and if you are a christian, here are 2 more tips

5. Read some of the Psalms everyday. There are 365 “fear nots” in the Good Book. One for every day of the year.

6. Remember Jesus Christ loved you enough to die for you. You are worth plenty to Him, since He gave His life for you.

well, I hope these tips could help you get through some of your tough times in your lives.

remember, life is too short to be depressed over it all the time
gotta make the best out of it!

*I don’t take credits for these tips; credits go to Dudley C. Rutherford
